It's The Quality Of The Content That Matters In Website Design

Your presence online is important and the first thing your customer sees is your website; therefore, your website needs to look professional and be filled with quality information.  If your website doesn’t measure up, it stands to reason, your business will not either.  Here, at Joomla Unlimited Website Design, we understand what it takes to put your website on the map, and how to keep your customers coming back regularly to see what is new and exciting.

When Designing a Website the key is repetition from page to page.  Keep all the page elements the same
from one page to the next page.  Your company logo should be displayed at the top left corner of every page throughout your website, just as your domain name should be placed on every piece of your business documentation.  Your Website reflects your business, so professionalism matters.  You could easily compliment your logo with a catch phrase.

Who is viewing your website?

In today’s world of Website creation, development, and design, the buzzwords are marketing, SEO, and links, but the reality is that the written content on your site is what really matters and is the most important part when creating any website.   What you need to have for your website is clear, concise, and unique quality content that is free of spelling and grammatical errors.  In order to obtain this, you must understand who your customers are and why they are visiting your website.

Unique quality content is available in many forms today.  It comes as written material, audio material, and visual material, which you want your visitors enjoy and, in turn, to send their friends and family members to view your website as well, creating greater traffic.  Your Website Content could consist of articles, blogs, audio clips, videos, helpful tools, and links to entertainment or other interesting resources, but whatever they consist of, they need to be extremely high quality.

In order to create quality content it is important to remember that this content is for the visitors to your site, not the search engines; therefore, it should provide current and relevant information, educational materials, or interesting or entertaining tidbits of information.  To achieve these goals, you should keep your content aimed at the main topic of the site, whether it is your business, service, product, or products.  Your content needs to provide a value-added service for your clients...useful, well-written information.

Other things that should be found on your website include an “About Us” page.  This page should consist of up-to-date and relevant information about your business, as well as you.  It is generally wise to include your contact information on this page as well.

By now, you will have noted that I write in short paragraphs.  The reason I do this is so that my readers are not straining their eyes by the time they reach the bottom of a long page of text.  The other thing you need to remember is that smaller text is hard to read; therefore, I would recommend you use a plain, open text like Arial or Times Roman, and font size of not less than 12 point.  This is the most comfortable size for on-going reading.  Most of your paragraphs should consist of no more than ten lines of text, which is approximately 100 words, give or take a little.

Put some color into that Website Content!

Another issue that is important to address, is color.  Some colors are hard to read, especially if you are older.  It has been proven that seniors and people with cataracts have a hard time seeing the color “Blue”, as well as many other pastel shades, so when designing your website be sure to remember to err on the side of darker shades of primary colors, and this way you can’t go wrong!

While talking about color, many website designers prefer one color believing it looks more business like, but what it really does is make the page monotone, boring, and hard to read.  To avoid this, you should take each area’s heading and make it a darker shade than the subheading, and the subheading should be a darker shade then the text, bold, plus one or two sizes larger than the text size you are using.  For example:

Another good option is to use a complimentary color heading and subheading to the text color.  This will allow for separation and importance, and maintain readability.

An important consideration when preparing your content is the white space on your web page, (white space = empty space).  If your page looks crowded and unbalanced, it will not look good nor read well.  Remember most people are visual, so in order to keep their interest it is best to use a combination of balanced text blocks and images, leaving adequate space around them.  Symmetry is a beautiful thing when it comes to designing an easy-to-read and pleasing web page.

When laying out your website remember that using clear and concise headings, subheadings, bulleted lists, and highlighting text, plus shorter paragraphs gives you the opportunity to get your message across effectively, yet keeps the website easy-to-read and user-friendly, both real pluses when it comes to Optimization.
